Obituary for Hazel Marie Cole
Hazel Marie (Moss) Cole 88 was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, & friend departed this life July 1, 2017 surrounded by her family. Hazel was born under the union of Freddie (Sr.) & Vernanna Moss March 19, 1929 in Hope, Arkansas where she was raised with 10 of her living siblings. Hazel was a 1948 graduate of Yerger High School and while in school she and her sister Juanita became the caretakers of the family after the untimely death of their mother. In 1949 Hazel left her home in Hope, Arkansas and moved to Toledo, Ohio where her life blossomed.
Shortly after Moving to Toledo Hazel began working as a cook at the Crippled Children’s Home where she was elevated as the lead cook after a short time of being employed there. Hazel met her former husband Robert (Bobby) Cole where they got married and raised 4 sons in their West Woodruff home. After Hazel and Bobby separated, they remained friends as she continued being an excellent Homemaker while raising their sons. She became a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church were her and her children attended on Sundays. As her sons grew older, Hazel began working for International Automated Machines where she was granted early retirement in 1979. Shortly after retirement she cared for all of her grandchildren whom she loved with all of her heart.
Hazel was preceded in death by her loving parents Freddie & Vernanna Moss; Brothers, Lewis, Eddie, Warren, Washington, Jonny, Freddie Jr., Lonny, & Herman. She leaves to cherish her loving memory 4 sons. Reginald Sr. (Deborah) of Columbus, Oh, Rodney (Mary), Darrell (Terrina), and Stanford; Brother, Jerry (Joan) Moss; Sisters, Juanita Dunlap & Aursby Moss; 8 grandchildren, Paris, Jason (Jennifer), Reginald Jr., Shealaurietta (Donnell), Erika, Roxsanne, Angelina, & Christina; 9 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives who loved her dearly.
Hazel was a true Matriarch who kept her family together! She was a good Mother who was full of life, very strong willed, spunky, very outspoken, and had a laugh that brightened a room. Even in the last years of her life, her caretakers always spoke highly of “Mrs. Cole” and loved having her around while keeping them on their toes.
