Obituary

Deacon E.L. Jaynes was born to born December 18, 1924, in Mendenhall , Mississippi, to the union of Reverend Augusta and Louvenia Hayes-Jaynes, who both preceded him in death. He accepted Christ at an early age at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Mississippi. After completing a few years in high school, he joined the United States Army, serving in World War II from 1943-1946. During that time E.L. met and married the love of his life, the late Ethel Mae Jaynes, who he remained married to until death did they part. Ethel Mae preceded him in death by 17 days. To this union they were blessed with eight children. He departed his earthly life on Saturday July 13, 2019, at Hospice of N.W. Ohio.

After serving in the U.S. Army, E.L. and Ethel Mae relocated to Toledo, Ohio and joined Mt. Pilgrim Church, where he remained a life time member and served as a Sunday School teacher, President of the Sr. Usher Board, and later served on the Deacon Board. E.L. was a retiree from Unicast as Millwright worker, and after retirement he worked for Dolgin Jewelers, and Tate Funeral Home. He was a hard-working husband, the best dad, very caring grand and great grand father brother,uncle, cousin, and friend. E.L. was affectionately known to many as Pawpaw. He loved to fish,bowl, work on cars, and repair broken things. He loved being in the presence of his loved ones, especially the grand and great grand children loving on him.

He is preceded in death by siblings, Arthur Lee Jaynes, Iree Lofton, Regerleen Patton, Nathaniel Jaynes, and Shirley Banks; children, E.L (Butch) Jaynes, Diahann Lynn Boyd, and Vanessa Wright; grand daughter, Brandee LaChez Jaynes, and his Beautiful wife of 75 years, Ethel Mae Jaynes.

Cherishing the life and legacy of E.L. are his children, Edward Earl Jaynes, Reverend Evonne (Leslie) Linear, Dorothea Jaynes, RoseMary Richardson, Jeffery Allen Jaynes, 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Denise) Jaynes of Chicago, IL; sister in-laws, Mary Lois Jaynes, Irene Boykin, and Joyce Moore; brother in-law, Amos Gregory Sr.,a ll of Toledo Ohio; adopted daughter, Wanita Mayberry and her daughter Brittany Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
