Redell Thompson was born on July 26, 1977 in Toledo, Oh to Linda and James Thompson Sr. JaMar, as he was affectionately known by family and friends was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday August 13, 2019 at UTMC Hospital.

He graduated from Whitmer High School in 1996. And in August 2003, he enlisted in the United States Army serving for 10 years. Serving the country was one of his greatest accomplishments. During his time in the service he received numerous decorations, badges, and citation including: Iraq campaign metal, two campaign stars, National Defense Service medal, Global War on Terrorism service medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service ribbon and was awarded Overseas service Ribbon twice. He was honorably discharged on August 30, 2013.

Accepting Jesus Christ at an early age, JaMar had a strong relationship with Jesus Christ and on June 24, 2018 he became a member of United Vision Baptist Church under the leadership of his cousin Rev. Perry Harris III.

Outside of talking about his time in the service you could be sure to find him discussing one of 3 topics: Sports (especially Detroit Lions), the Night Riders Motor Cycle (which he joined in April of 2019 – known as “Vision”) or the Masons of which he was proud member of as well.

Redell was preceded in death by his grandparents Redell Sr. & Arlinda Williams, grandmother Margaret Jones and Uncle Charles Johnson.

He leaves to uphold his legacy his mother, Linda Thompson and father James Thompson Sr., siblings Javan (Davonn) Thompson, Jameka Thompson, James Earl Thompson Jr. Brothers from other Mothers, Richard (Nikki) Barringer and Varian (Pam) England. Akyra, Hassan, Xian and many nieces and nephews. Godchildren DonaVon, Dontrel and Amora , his companion and friend “Harpo,” his service dog and a host of family and friends.

I offer my deeply felt condolences to all family and friends of Redell. JaMar and I went to Whitmer at the same time and shared the same crazy bus (with my sister Sherry and Javan as well). It certainly made that rather too hot/too cold most times stinky ride into something much more pleasant. There are many moments from then that seemed trivial but all of a sudden seem so important and vivid. JaMar walking down the hallway to meet me to walk to classes that were near each other. Talking about some assignment or other, maybe about something his Grandmother had cooked. That smile of his and easy-going way. A hug here and there when times were hard. Even my mother remembers his happiness and smile. When we reconnected later via Facebook I was delighted to be able to interact once again with my old friend even if it was only electronically. He used to tell me I was his friend because I "kept it real", lol! His absence is so blatantly noticed and I am sure leaving an empty ache in the many hearts he has touched over the years.
