Obituary

Robert Eugene Kendrick, Sr., was born to the late John L. Kendrick and and Letha (Quarles) Dix on July 31, 1932, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Robert graduated from Jesup W. Scott High School, where he met Betty Houston. The two married May 3, 1952. He then served in the US Army (Korean War Era), receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1954. Robert worked at Textile Leather (Gencorp) for 36 years. After retirement, he was a long-time member of St. Martin De Porres Church, where he served as an usher and greeter. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Robert was a country boy at heart. He loved to share his childhood stories especially about growing up in the country and the love of his mother and grandparents. Robert loved everybody and always made you feel welcome, like family. He was a true gentleman, always willing to lend a helping hand. Those who came to visit, always left with a full stomach and a smile on their face.

His passions included planning family vacations, gardening, cooking/barbequing, playing the drums, listening to jazz and soul music, watching westerns, and fishing. He was very handy and loved buying tools to make things, especially wooden crafts.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, John Lewis and Letha; siblings, Dorothy and Anita; and grandson, Justin.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Betty; sons, Robert Jr. and Brian; daughters, Robin and Cynthia (Fred); 10 grandchildren, Robert III, Joshua (Margie), JeMarr (Denise), Erin, Aaron, Jacob, Jasmine, Jennifer, and Katrina; 14 great grandchildren, nephew, Terry Crosby; and cousins, Bessie and Armon Hooker Jr; god children, Taylor and Tori Franklin; his self-adopted sister, Shirley Jarnigan. He also leaves behind a host of special friends and church family.

Bob always had a smile and a joke for a friend. This man was a one man welcoming committee when someone new (or old) walked into his church! He will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing his path in life. Rest in the arms of the Lord and may perpetual light shine upon you.
