Obituary for Sam Harris

Sam "Pops" Harris peacefully transitioned home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, August 12, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Sam, 82, was born August 11, 1937, in Bessemer, AL to Mary Lou Hunter and Willie C. Harris, Sr. The family later relocated to Toledo, Ohio, where he met and married Helen Greenlee. To their union two sons were born, Gregory and Reginald.

Sam was a faithful member of The Calvary M.B. Baptist Church where he served on many auxiliaries including the Senior Usher Board. Sam was a committed member of the Lions Club-Toledo Chapter and retired from Interlake Steel after many years of dedicated service.

Sam is preceded in death by both parents, Willie C., Sr. and Mary Lou (Hunter) Harris; brothers, Willie C. Harris, Jr. and Larry Kinnebrew; and sister, Katherine Harris.

Sam leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Gregory (Anita) and Reginald (Katrina); six grandchildren, Regina Harris, Reginald Harris, Jr. of Chicago IL, Shirmaen Hodges, Quentin, Christopher, and Dominique Carrington; one great grandson, Khai Harris; and three great granddaughters, Khaiyona Harris, Marei Jordan and La’Niya Moore; brothers, James and Herman (Georgia) Harris; sisters, Rosa Perry, JoAnn Quinn, Velma Lynn Mitchell, and a host of loving and devoted nieces and nephews.
