Obituary

Felton Benton, affectionately known as "Conell" to many was born on November 27, 1941, to Felton, Sr. and Alma Lee Benton. He was raised from an infant by his beloved Uncle Philmore and Aunt Leaner Causey of Bonita LA. Felton attended Rosenwald School (Bonita, LA) and Union High School (Mer Rouge, LA).

After graduating from high school, Felton continued working on his uncle's farm. He married the love of his life, Mirlean Jones on December 24, 1965. They relocated to Toledo, Ohio in March of 1966. Together they raised four children. Felton was not a stranger to hard work. He learned early on in life, while working on his uncle's farm, the fruits of his labor. He was a conscientious, innovative, and reliable employee, working in various capacities while living in Toledo. With a specialty in the automotive industry as an assembler and machine operator, he was later promoted to Quality Parts Inspector. Felton was also a bus driver for TARTA. After thirty years, in 2001, Felton retired from Chrysler Toledo Machining in Perrysburg, Ohio.

Subsequent to retirement, Felton began repairing lawn mowers for family and friends. He also managed several rental properties. He had a passion for photography and is known as the "Family Historian" due to his vast collection of photos and videos. Felton was the man behind the camera for most events. He loved reading and teaching the Bible, technology, sports, and, of course, his Facebook page.

Felton was an active member of Bibleway Temple and New Life House of Faith. He ministered in various capacities as Christian Education teacher, youth leader, Brotherhood and Deacon Chairman, member of the Board of Trustees, and a deacon. He received the Holy Spirit during his time at Bibelway Temple.

He was preceded in death by his uncle and aunt, mother and father, two brothers, John L. King and Lee A. Smith, Sr., two sisters, Lottie M. Haskin and Rosa L. White, and son, Sharles E. McGhee, Sr.

Felton leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of fifty-four years, Mirlean Benton; two sons, Felix Jones and Conell Benton, both of Toledo; one daughter, Veronica Benton Franklin (Tyrone, Sr.) of Streetsboro, OH; seven sisters, Tommie L. Harris of Toledo, Josie Loch (Bastrop, LA), Alfreda Evans (Dallas, TX), Michelle Benton (Chicago, IL), Felecia Benton (Milwaukee, WI), Dessie Dantzler (LA, CA), and Stacey; four brothers, Charles (Brenda) of Streveport, LA, James, Roscoe (Antoinette), and Felton, Jr. (Sandra) Benton, all of Milwaukee, WI; brothers-in-law, Moses White, Sr., Curtis Haskin, Sr.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four godsons, sister-in-law, Margie White, cousin, Edward McNeal, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
